These are the backers of our kickstarter project to create the first batch of Streets Earrings and this is a preview of what some of them look like. The black parts are what gets etched away.

If you were too late to get into the Kickstarter action, you can now order over the website. We are continuing with the batch order process so those of you familier with Fluid Forms will notice a small difference with the Earrings as opposed to the other Fluid Forms products.

Since producing a single piece would have an astronomical price attached to it, we are now pooling people together so that anyone can take part in the project. Once we have 50 orders to fill up a sheet we make all of them and send them off to you. If you are in a hurry you just have to gather your friends together and show them how to order their own pair. Ever been to a tupperware party? ;-)

Now you could easily go on your own personal trip around the world. And it is really easy: Just enter your favourite bar around the corner, where they recently got  Earth Lamps by Fluid Forms installed.  The old walls were spiced up with these 3D-printed lamps out of Polyamide. Now you can call your fav bar TRENDY! Because you can not only see Graz from bird perspective, but also New York, Sydney, Tokyo and Paris gloom from the walls.

Only a dream? No! The creative guys, who work at Fluid Forms made it possible: You can change every place on earth to be a gleaming polyamide lamp framed in brushed aluminium. The ways of designing are seemingly endless. On their do-it-yourself-homepage one chooses his/her favourite place on mother earth and the journey begins. Later, the prominent relief is 3D printed in polyamide, mounted on a brushed aluminium frame and equipped with an energy saving ring bulb. Now something very special is born: A unique lamp, which was designed by YOU!

Of course, such way-out lamps do not only look good on the walls of your favourite bar, also in your own private living room they make a reeeally good figure.  They will be an eye-catcher and point of fascination at the same time, because not many people have seen such an extraordinary construction before.  (Sad, isn’t it? Der Earth Tisch Stripe von Fluid Forms ist auf dem besten Weg, auch so ein Klassiker zu werden wie das Märchen von den Gebrüdern Grimm. Genauso wichtig wie das individuelle Erzählen der Tischlein-deck-dich Geschichte ist auch hier das individuelle Gestalten des schmucken Möbelstücks. Wer fähig ist, eine Computermaus zu bedienen kann sich ruck-zuck ein Designstück der Superlative schaffen. Nicht nur, dass man die Art und Aufmachung des Tisches selbst gestalten kann, auch der Tisch kann auf Anfrage in der gewünschten Größe produziert werden. Ob quadratisch, praktisch, gut, oder länglich, schmal, perfekt, da ist sicher für jeden was dabei.

Die Schritte im Entstehen des Tisches sind einfach erklärt: Das System basiert auf Google Maps, zuerst sucht man also einen x-beliebigen Ort auf diesem schönen Erdball aus. (Mondkrater sind leider noch Zukunftsmusik, aber wer weiß, was Fluid Forms als nächstes einfällt. In der Ideenschmiede par excellence rauchen Köpfe und Rechner um neue Einfälle in die Tat umzusetzen.) Dann wird dieser Ausschnitt mithilfe einer CNC Fräse aus Edelholz Schichtblöcken herausgearbeitet und danach händisch geschliffen, geölt und poliert. Eine 8 mm dicke Glasplatte krönt das Einzelstück und ermöglicht, die Landschaftsnuancen weiter sehen zu können und gleichzeitig auf einer stabilen, ebenen Oberfläche dinieren zu können.

Mitten im brasilianischen Dschungel, am Tafelberg, im Great Barrier Reef, am Dachstein, in London, Paris, New York, Moskau fühlt man sich mit dem Earth Tisch Stripe in eine andere Welt versetzt. Beziehungweise an einen anderen ORT in dieser WELT. Oder auch nur einfach im eigenen kleinen Heimatdorf (In meinem Fall wäre das Nitscha-Feldgasse, falls es irgendjemanden da draußen interessiert…) wäre doch auch ein Gag?!

Die coolste Story des Gewinnspiels:

Es ist drückend heiß. Die Luft steht und saugt den Schweiß der Händler, den Urin am Boden und den Dampf der Schafe auf. Fliegen surren knapp an meinem Ohr vorbei und übertönen für den Bruchteil einer Sekunde das geschäftige Treiben am Busbahnhof in Mopti.

Natalie schläft auf einer Holzbank. So ein schönes Mädchen. Auf ihrem Bauch liegt Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, das sie mir noch vor ein paar Minuten in mexikanischem Akkzent vorgelesen hat. Seltsame Umgebung für so eine Lesung…
Ich sitze auf meinem Rucksack am Boden und beobachte zwei Jungs, wie sie geschickt, aber vergebens versuchen, billiges Zeug aus China zu verkaufen. Schweiß rinnt mir von der Stirn. Es ist früher Nachmittag, aber wir haben schon 7 Stunden in einem Taxi ohne Fensterscheiben hinter uns. Ich sehe zu Natalie rüber – sie schmatzt im Schlaf, dreht sich und drückt ihren Kopf tiefer in ihren staubigen Schal. Johnny Depps Gesicht liegt am lehmigen Boden. Bald werde ich sie wecken müssen, wenn der Bus sich gefüllt hat und abfährt.

Wir sitzen im Bus. Es ist Nacht und die Kälte kriecht durch jede Ritze im Bus. Meine Füße sind durchgefroren. Ich massiere sie, wenn ich wieder kurz aufwache. Die Schafe im Bus schlafen mittlerweile auch, nur dann und wann hört man ein leises “mäh”. Durch das Fenster sehe ich den sternenklaren Himmel, manchmal sieht man in der Ferne ein Feuer und die unscharfen Umrisse von Hütten. Langsam zeichnen sich am Horizont die ersten Anzeichen des nächsten Tages ab.

Noch 4 Stunden, dann sind wir da.

Wir wachen auf, als der Bus bereits leer ist. Wir sind endlich in Segou angelangt. Ein verschlafenes Nest am Rande der Zivilisation, dessen größtes Gebäude so etwas wie ein Zwischenstopplager für Reisende ist. Das erste Mal seit drei Tagen in einem echten Bett. Außer Natalie und mir ist niemand in dem Schlafsaal, der über 30 Personen fasst. Sie liest mir wieder aus Fear and Loathing vor.

Am nächsten Morgen beginnt, wofür wir so lange hierher gekommen sind: ein Marsch quer durchs Land der Dogon, zu Fuss, 10 Tage.
Es sind unsere Weihnachtsferien im Auslandssemester in Senegal. Natalie kommt aus Kalifornien, ich aus Österreich und wir marschieren durch die Ausläufer der Wüste in Mali. Grotesk.

Die Landschaft ist grau und unwirtlich, nur rings um die Dörfer haben die Dogon grüne Äcker angelegt. Es ist eine unwirkliche Stimmung. Vielleicht auch weil wir spätestens zu Mittag von der Hitze und den Märschen ausgelaugt sind. Vielleicht, weil wir am zweiten Abend amu-kaykay verabreicht bekommen und in einem tiefen Drogenrausch glauben, die Ahnen sehen zu können. Wir sehen staubige Kinder, Büffel reitende, junge Männer und alte Dogon, die ihre Jugend in einer anderen Welt verbracht haben, Karawanen von Menschen und Kamelen, am Feld arbeitende Jungs nicht älter als sieben.
Es ist eine betörend schöne Welt, und doch auch gefährlich und bedrohlich. Wir fühlen uns als Eindringlinge, dann wieder als willkommene Gäste, dann wieder als Entführte.

Dieser Ort in Mali, der lange Felsen, der den Anfang der Wüste markiert, die Menschen, die dort in Lehmhütten leben, die Hitze des Tages und die eisige Kälte der Nacht, waren ein Erlebnis, das mich tief bewegt hat. Fünf Monate Senegal waren schon eine Erfahrung, Mali war ein Abgrund und der Himmel zugleich. In diesen 10 Tagen hat es mir den Kopf gewaschen – so intensiv, dass es jetzt – 1 Jahr danach – noch immer Momente gibt, in denen Gerüche von dort in die Nase steigen.

Natalie, ist wieder in Chicago, wo sie studiert. Das Dogon-Land steht für mich für unsere gemeinsame Zeit, die erst Ende diesen Sommers in Marokko weitergeführt wird.

Die Earth-Schale wäre nicht nur Accessoire, sondern Manifestation meines Innenlebens, das dann und wann ausbricht und tagelang fette Erinnerungen hochkommen lässt.

QR codes will be all over the place. No wonder that creative people lay their eyes and hands on this designable novelty. QR codes look really good indeed. Furthermore they can also carry such useful information like web addresses or even also more useless ones. There are practically no limits, except for the length of your text.

When it comes to QR codes, designers all over the world agree that it looks so good that it should be all over the design products of the future. The Pet Shop Boys even went so far to “hide” QR codes in their video. For the fast ones: you may try to photograph the QR codes and so discover the messages.

QR Codes so weit das Auge reicht. Wenn etwas so verdammt gut aussieht und noch dazu nützliche (und unnützliche) Informationen tragen kann, dann wird es zum Kultobjekt erklärt. Da sind sich die Pet Shop Boys, Lendorff Kaywa und Laufsteg-Label Louis Vuitton einig.

Hier gibts natürlich wieder finanzielle Abstufungen. Ganz gratis, sozusagen die Billigsdorfer Variante ist das Video der Jungs vom Tiergeschäft, bei dem die pixeligen Punkte auf fast jedem Shot auftauchen.
