Hannover Messe

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Last Tuesday a visited the Hannover Messe. As the fair is just huge, I had to concentrate on some aspects. Despite some very interesting contacts and some interesting software and hardware, I kept mainly two things in mind. First is Festo’s Airic’s_arm, which simulates a human hand by using Festo’s pneumatic muscles. Second is the application park initiated by Phoenix contacts especially for the fair. Visitors were able to choose between different logo’s for a drinking cup design and sign the order at the predefined field. The signature was scanned, a new cup was produced by injection molding, the logo and signature got engraved by a laser, followed by some automated tests, packaging, and delivering right into the hand of the visitor. The information where transfered in real time to all machines and into the ERP. All that happened in front of the visitors eyes and 100% automated. Finally 1to1 production has arrived.

Some weeks ago, we’d been invited by www.autonomatic.org.uk to London for a series of events about digital design. We presented our CASSIUS Punch Bag Interface at an exhibition at metropolitan works. It was a great pleasure to meet the lovely people of the Falmouth University and Metropolitan University. They all do wonderful digital design and the equipment at metropolitan works sounds like a dream to us. We hope to join forces and pushing forward the possibilities of binary design.
